A premium and highly prized timber, American Walnut is known for its rich, dark brown color with striking grain patterns. The heartwood ranges from light brown to a deep chocolate brown, often with purple or reddish hues, while the sapwood contrasts in a creamy white or light yellow tone. The grain can be straight but is more commonly wavy or curly, adding to its appeal and uniqueness.
American Walnut is versatile, commonly used for high-end flooring, furniture, cabinetry, and veneers. Its deep color lends itself well to staining, though many prefer its natural beauty untouched. Walnut is durable and stable, making it an excellent choice for areas that require both aesthetics and functionality.
Also known as Black Walnut, this timber is native to the eastern United States, primarily found in the central and eastern regions. The species name nigra refers to its dark heartwood.
American Walnut trees typically grow to a height of around 30-40 metres with a trunk diameter of up to 1.5 metres. Its large, straight trunk makes it ideal for high-quality timber production, with the wood being strong yet relatively light in weight.
